Sunset, Ring of Brodgar
Artist:
Nancy Rommes "Erected nearly five thousand years ago, the Ring of Brodgar is the most famous and imposing of the Neolithic stone circles in Orkney. The reasons for its construction have been lost to time, but they seem to be related to astronomical (especially solar and lunar) phenomena. Sixty stones were originally placed, but only twenty-seven remain today. We visited this site many times during our three-week stay in Orkney, but this was the only time when the sun poked through the clouds late in the day." - Nancy Rommes
