Crocosmia and Stone Storehouse
"It was the profusion of colorful wildflowers that attracted me to this site as we drove by. We made a quick U-turn, pulled off the narrow country road, asked the owners of the property for permission, and then photographed the structure. When I began to study the scene – camera on tripod – and work out a composition, I saw in my viewfinder much of what I felt characterized Orkney. Old, often abandoned stone buildings, scattered about the lush country side, heavy slate slabs for the roof, were what we had been seeing the whole trip. In this minimalist composition, I saw the evanescent beauty of the flowers, the toll of time on the building, and the sense of place suggested by local stone and slab." - Nancy Rommes
